NASWA's 2005 Awards Nominations

Merrill Baumgardner Award


The Merrill Baumgardner Award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in the field of automation in a state workforce agency. The award was named in honor of Merrill Baumgardner, Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, in recognition of his fifty-five years of state service, thirty-one of which were spent as data processing manager for the Ohio Bureau.

AWARD CRITERIA: The individual must:
  • have made a significant contribution to the field of information technology in one or more workforce agencies;
  • be a current state employee or a former state employee separated within one year of the nomination date;
  • have demonstrated a series of accomplishments over multiple years; and,
  • have contributed to the greater workforce development community as well as his/her individual state. (This is desirable but not mandatory.)
NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS: The nomination must:
  • be submitted by July 12, 2007;
  • contain a completed Baumgardner Award nomination form [PDF] or [Word];
  • contain answers to all questions listed on the Baumgardner Award nomination form within prescribed word limits;
  • include a statement of approval from the agency administrator; and,
  • be the only nomination for that state in that category.
NOMINATION PROCEDURES:
If submitting via e-mail: E-mail to naswa@naswa.org (Subject line should read "Baumgardner Award Nomination"). Recommendation letters (not to exceed 3) may be e-mailed separately.

If submitting via hard copy, mail to:
NASWA, 444 N. Capitol St. NW, Suite 142, Washington, DC 20001, Attn: Baumgardner Award. Recommendation letters (not to exceed 3) should be attached to the nominations. Include 6 copies of nomination packet.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:
The NASWA Information Technology Committee Chair will appoint a panel consisting of five members of the committee to review the nominations. The panel will present its recommendation to the full Information Technology Committee for approval.
