SUSPENSION OF FEDERAL INCOME TAX

Program Name:
Suspension of Federal Income Tax

Explanation:
Under current law, all federal unemployment benefits are subject to taxation. The average unemployment benefit is approximately $300 per week. The Recovery Act temporarily suspends federal income tax on the first $2,400 of unemployment benefits per recipient. Any unemployment benefits over $2,400 will be subject to federal income tax.
